This project at Pappy’s Beach in Northern Queensland began not as a blank canvas, but as something more complex. An idea already partially formed building, waiting for clarity, refinement, and completion.

Rather than starting fresh, the design process embraced what already existed. The challenge was to work within an unfinished structure and reimagine it into something cohesive, considered, and truly liveable. Key wet areas were retained and respected, anchoring the practical framework of the home, while surrounding spaces were reinterpreted to bring flow, light, and purpose back into the design.

There is a unique beauty in transformation. Instead of erasing the past, this project builds upon it, proving that great design doesn’t always start from scratch, sometimes it comes from seeing potential where others might only see limitation. At Pappy’s Beach, that potential has been realised into a home that feels grounded, modern, a renewed vision of what was always meant to be.

The design embraces a modern beach aesthetic, softened through warm neutral tones and natural textures that echo the calm rhythm of the waterfront. Leaning into apartment living , every decision is guided by function, with layouts refined to support real daily life while maintaining a sense of ease and comfort. Storage is integrated, circulation is intuitive, and each space is designed to feel purposeful.

Framed by water views over Noosa Quay, the home constantly connects back to its setting. Light becomes a key material in itself, shifting throughout the day and softening the boundaries between interior and exterior.

 

Advanced visualisation tools were used throughout the design process to ensure a clear and accurate translation of intent into reality. Real material selections were explored and refined in detail, allowing every surface, tone, and texture to be understood before construction begins, a considered expression of coastal apartment living.

Designed as a private urban retreat for a growing family, this residence balances scale, simplicity in design, and sanctuary in equal measure.

Conceived as a graduated split-level form, allowing spaces to gently step with the land while maintaining a strong sense of openness and connection. High ceilings and layered volumes create a feeling of generosity throughout, giving even the most functional spaces a sense of calm and breathing room.

Carefully oriented to capture sweeping countryside views to the west, while strategically shielding the home from harsh afternoon sun. A constant play of light as this balance creates an ever-changing atmosphere inside the home. Bright and open in the morning, soft and protected as the day draws to a close.

Multiple living zones, including a dedicated games room and secondary lounge areas, provide flexibility for both family connection and private retreat. The kitchen sits at the centre of the home’s social life, supported by a highly practical workflow with a discreet secondary preparation space for overflow, ensuring the main space always feels composed.Additionally a home with office, supporting modern hybrid living. Below, generous parking for up to six vehicles reflects both lifestyle and functionality, integrated without compromising the architectural clarity above.

Designed to feel both grand and welcoming, the residence draws on classic character details while embracing a fresh contemporary edge. A weatherboard façade creates a strong sense of tradition, elevated by expressed ornate brickwork that adds texture and charm.

Inside, light timber tones flow throughout the home, bringing softness and natural warmth to the generous interiors. This palette creates a relaxed coastal-hinterland feel. Perched high on a ridgeline in Brisbane’s prestigious suburb of Hamilton, this project transforms the outdoor experience of a traditional hillside home while carefully respecting its architectural heritage.

The original house, a classic Brisbane Tudor-style residence, carries a strong sense of character and history. Rather than competing with this identity, the design approach focused on complementing it, subtly refreshing the façade while introducing a modern landscape that feels both contemporary and timeless.

Beyond its visual impact, the courtyard functions as an additional usable area, perfect as a relaxing secondary yard space, or simply enjoying the outlook. Carefully designed level changes and retaining elements allowed the space to feel generous while working with the natural slope of the site.

Privacy and security were also essential considerations given the home’s relationship to the street. Hedging and heliconias increasing the effective fence height, and strategic spatial planning provide a sense of enclosure without sacrificing openness or views.Softening the architecture is a palette of lush, low-maintenance tropical planting that thrives in Brisbane’s climate while remaining easy to maintain.

The result is a landscape that feels effortlessly connected to the home’s heritage, where traditional character and outdoor living meet on a spectacular hilltop setting.

Set on the edge of Northern Queensland’s protected coastline, this project at Pappy’s Beach Estate captures the rare balance between considered architecture and the raw beauty of its surroundings.

The site itself presented both the challenge and the opportunity, a tightly constrained triangular allotment backing directly onto the beachfront. Rather than resist its geometry, the design responds to it. The home is carefully composed to turn constraints into moments of generosity, opening outward toward uninterrupted ocean views and framing long sightlines across the alfresco and pool.

Multiple façade options were provided. A modern subdued aesthetic establishes a calm architectural language, soft tones, clean lines, and a restrained material palette that allows light and landscape to take centre stage. In contrast, traditional facade options offer an alternative interpretation, allowing buyers to lean into familiarity and character while still benefiting from a contemporary spatial plan.

A response to place, shaped by its geometry, softened by its palette, and defined by its connection to the beach. It offers a quiet confidence: architecture that doesn’t compete with its setting, but instead frames it, celebrates it, and allows it to be lived in every day.

Positioned high above the coastline with distant views across the Gold Coast beaches, this project embraces the beauty of elevated living from every level of the home.

Set on an existing sloping block with a significant cut into the hillside, the design response was to work with the land rather than against it. A carefully considered stepped layout follows the natural hillform, allowing each level to connect seamlessly while maximising outlook, light, and usable space.

The material palette draws inspiration from the landscape—raw stone, off-form concrete, warm timber, and integrated greenery combine to create a home that feels grounded, refined, and timeless. These natural finishes soften the architecture and bring a sense of calm to the dramatic setting.

At the uppermost level, the home opens to a private rear pool retreat designed for entertaining on a grand scale. Flowing from front terraces with ocean outlooks through to the secluded rear pool area, the top floor becomes a complete lifestyle space for gathering, relaxing, and enjoying the best of indoor-outdoor living.

The result is a home that feels both luxurious and effortless—an elevated sanctuary where architecture, landscape, and breathtaking views come together in perfect balance.
